Middle of exams so wasn't sure if I should go windsurfing but you've got to get your priorities right.

Perfect sunshine and wind when I arrived at Salterns Park at 3pm....nice. Not much on the beach (was slightly offshore), but people were planing comfortably further out. Ummed and ahhed between the 6.0 and the 7.4. Was just about to start rigging the 6.0, but changed my mind last minute cos I really didn't want to risk being underpowered.

Thought 7.4 might be too big, but turned out to be just right, maybe even a fraction too small. Was having a bit of trouble staying upwind, so came in after a few runs to change up fins. That helped, and I had a very pleasant hour or so cruising around in the sunshine....very nice.

That would have been a solid 4 star session if I'd ended it there, that'll do nicely, thank you very much.....

BUT

I went for one more run......

Well, gimme a break, I couldn't resist after only an hour of very pleasant sailing, and it was nice n' sunny....come on. Had trouble waterstarting at the start so should have known it was going to be a bad one. Wind had suddenly dropped off 2 or 3 knots. Couldn't get planing, and by the time I had turned round, I realised I was way downwind, near the sailing club. Thought I would have to dump my kit there and walk back to the car and drive it round to the sailing club to de-rig. Wind picked up again a fraction though, so had a go at sailing back upwind. Was painfully hard work, trogging upwind trying to avoid the lulls. With really long beats out into the Solent (furthest I've been out into it), made painfully slow progress, maybe 100 metres further upwind at a time. After about an hour of trogging, for a moment thought I would actually make it back to my launch point. But in the end gave up still a fair way downwind, and had a 15 minute walk/wade of shame across the stones and the groynes back to base. Didn't get home until 8 pm, a good hour or two later than I had planned.

Ho hum, well it was good at the start, and a good work-out overall, just what I needed after weeks of sitting on my arse working.
